How To Find An Eco-Stay For Your Upcoming Summer Vacation

Weekly Catalogue: July 15th

Thinking about a last-minute summer trip? Consider making it an eco-stay: a getaway that’s a little more environmentally conscious. Having environmentally-responsible fun has never been easier with the resources we have at our fingertips, so keep reading for our tips on making small adjustments to your travel planning!

First up: Check out some dedicated eco-travel platforms.

There are tons of options now, but to name a few, peruse some of the following sites:

Use sustainability filters on travel sites.

Sites like Booking, TripAdvisor, Agoda, and Airbnb have a “travel sustainable” filter, or something similar.

Go camping.

Let me first say, not all camping is environmentally responsible, so you have to do your research, but if you do it right – this can be one of the lowest-impact ways to see new places and enjoy the great outdoors. Find a responsible campground and do your due diligence on responsible camping practices to plan your next eco-conscious vacation.

Try a farm stay.

Say less. I am personally obsessed with the agriturismo experience in Italy, which typically involves staying in rural accommodations on a working farm that often produces it’s own food, wine, and oil, with a view of a postcard and the peaceful ambience of the countryside. There are similar types of stays all over the world, so use the Google machine and start booking! One of my all-time favorite agriturismi in Tuscany is Querceto di Castellina, be sure to check them out if you have the chance!

As a final note, be mindful of your mode of transportation.

Trains, planes, or automobiles? If you can avoid flying, do it. Trains / boats to your destination are always more carbon-conscious options. Plus, any opportunity to use public transit over cars when you reach your destination is a big environmental win.
